As agencies grow from small mom-and-pop shops to respected 7-figure businesses, they naturally experience an increase in rework – fixing mistakes your team made.
If not addressed quickly, rework will cost you an arm and a leg, maybe even a client or two.
At the root of all rework, are three fundamental problems. Your team is poorly trained, your processes aren’t standardized or spelled out, or your offer is too customizable.
Team Training – Your team may be highly skilled at the ins and outs of branding or growth marketing strategy, but without training, you can’t expect them to add your secret sauce to the mix. They won’t know what it is.
It’s like throwing them in the deep end of the pool and expecting them to swim. Some will, but most will drown.
Standardized Processes – Your processes, whether written or otherwise are how you take your client’s information and turn it into amazing strategies that grow your customer’s business.
But, unless that process is standardized and spelled out for your team they’re each putting their own spin on it, or worse: reinventing the wheel on every project. That wastes time, breeds mistakes, and creates confusion.
Too Much Customization – Ever since I started consulting 7-figure agencies I always hear the same concern when I bring this up. “We don’t want to be just another robot. It’s the customization that makes us good at what we do.”
That’s true. But there can be too much of a good thing. Too much customization can create confusion for your team, add unnecessary complexity, and open the door for more mistakes in the future.
Imagine a chef for a 5-star restaurant improvising their recipes every time they cook! The other staff wouldn’t be able to help. Instead, they start with a standard recipe and customize that.
